Y! Travel Destination Finder

“I have no idea where to go for vacation…” Sound familiar? During an ethnographic research and diary study we uncovered a huge opportunity: people who are passionate about traveling need help deciding where to go. The Travel Guide section of the Yahoo! Travel site was redesigned to encourage travelers to explore destinations by location, theme, and even driving distance.

Research and concepts for the first social deals offering at Yahoo!: Yahoo! Shopping Coupon Center.

Role: Design Lead, Interaction Design
Worked with User Researcher to summarize research findings, develop business model and UI concepts and validate designs with users. Worked with Product Managers, Engineers, and Visual Designer to design and implement Yahoo! Coupon Center.

Y! My Travel

My Travel was conceived as a central location for managing travel research and plans, as well as the start of a travel-specific social network for passionate travelers to share their experiences. The main goal of the project was to leverage the content generated by these passionate travelers to help other travelers in their efforts research and plan their trips.

Role: Project Lead, Design Lead, Interaction Design
Worked with Product Team and Visual Designer to develop and implement designs. Worked with User Researcher to plan and evaluate findings from usability studies. Took over as lead designer and project lead mid-way through the project.

Y! Trip Plan Redesign

This project focused on optimizing Yahoo! Travel’s Trip Planner product to allow travelers to proudly share their travel experiences, as well as to leverage this valuable content for travelers who are researching new destinations.

Role: Design Lead, Interaction Design
Worked with product team and visual designer to develop and implement designs. Worked with User Researcher to plan and evaluate findings from cognitive walkthrough.

Y! Travel User Experience Optimization

When I joined Yahoo! Travel, my main initiative was to gain a better understanding of our new target segment, identified during a recent market research study. I paired up with a User Researcher to plan, conduct, and develop findings for ethnographic and diary studies to learn more about these Passionate Travelers. The findings resulted in multiple projects for the Yahoo! Travel team including My Travel, Destination Finder, and a site and navigation redesign, all with the goal of acquiring and retaining our most valuable customers.
